A Fresh Take On Beauty

We were so incredibly proud and excited to launch our business with this amazing brand!  All their products are free from parabens, silicones, synthethic substances and all other harmful ingredients, which make them suitable for even the most sensitive skin types.

We have seen their product range more than double in size and can’t wait to see what they will bring out next.

A bit of background

Poko’s founders spent years trying numerous products, specifically skincare products for oily and problem skin, from treatment masks to mattifying toners.  Some helped but there was nothing they loved or couldn’t do without.

Their team has years of experience working in the beauty and CBD industry, and they made it their mission to transform the face of skincare products. By using high-quality CBD in combination with lots of skin-loving ingredients, the benefits to your daily skincare routine and overall skin health are vast.

It’s no secret that CBD cosmetics have become super trendy over the last few years – but for Poko CBD is more than just a passing phase.  They really feel it’s the missing link between making skincare products that are both effective and sustainable.

They strive to make every day a ‘good skin’ day, at an affordable cost, whilst caring for our environment – and this is the reason we work with them!

GOOD FOR YOU. GOOD FOR THE WORLD.

The next brand to join our gang was an easy choice!

We love the aroma of freshly brewed coffee in the mornings, and UpCircle repurpose the discarded grounds, and other natural, delicious ingredients – Cue – amazing smelling products with incredible benefits for your skin!

The UpCircle story started with the idea of giving used coffee grounds a new lease of life. The’ve now transformed more than 350 tonnes into their sustainable skincare, and become multi-award winners!

UpCircle Mission

“The circular economy sits at the heart of what we do – we even named ourselves after it! UpCircle also hints at ‘upcycling’, the process of making something better from things that already exist. Our ultimate mission is to leave the world better than we found it by transforming ingredients that would otherwise be discarded into natural, organic beauty products – better for you, better for the world.”

A selection of UpCircle's award-winning products

“So, it all started with coffee, but why stop there? Our palm oil-free soaps are made with residual chai tea spices left over after making chai syrups. The UK produced 23,000 tonnes of fruit stone waste in 2012 alone, so we knew something had to be done there too. We’ve now released our “fruit pit range”, within which each product is made with the powder of a different discarded fruit pit. Nothing is safe from being UpCircled – only our imagination can limit us! Next up, we’re saving flower petals from florists and wedding venues.”

“Our brand name encapsulates our core purpose: sustainability and promoting the power of the circular economy. UpCircle also hints at ‘upcycling’, the process of making something better from things that already exist. It’s been a gradual process and each product from our range has its own unique provenance given the circular economy element. Their unique story is part of what makes them so special.”

“We believe all life is sacred. That’s why we use only the finest plant-based ingredients, and never test on animals.”

We had been looking at shampoo bars for a while, and wanted to work with a brand that ticked all our boxes… Effective product, lathers well, ethical values & manufacturing within the UK, great smell, and developed for all types of hair – normal, coloured treated, dry & oily.

We thought we were asking the impossible, but then we were introduced to EarthKind!

Quite simply, WOW!

EarthKind® Shampoo Bars have been developed by leading British Trichologist (hair specialist) and award-winning cosmetic scientist, Tony Maleedy (MIT) and Jonathan Lawson-Brown.

Simply put, they know a thing or two about haircare, and that is why these products are SO incredible!

There are three different EarthKind shampoo bars. Bergamot & Sage for dry and coloured hair. Citrus Leaf for frequent use on oilier or more regular hair. And Tea Tree & Eucalyptus which is very good for improving the health of the scalp with these two natural, anti-microbial oils. EarthKind products are also formulated to have excellent effects on both African and Asian hair.

Shampoo bars, not soap

What’s the difference and why is this important?

“The most important difference between a soap and a shampoo is the pH (which stands for potential of Hydrogen), or how acid or alkali a product is.

The natural pH of the skin is between 5 and 6. If any type of product differs very much from this range it is not good for the skin and hair. Why?

Soap is an alkali and typically has a pH of 8 to 9, which is fine for skin because sebum, the natural oil of the skin which is acidic, quickly spreads over the skin and brings the pH down to normal..

But this oil takes much longer to spread over the hair, meaning that the pH of the hair is alkali for much longer. The effect of this is to swell the hair making it dry, dull and weak which leads to breakage.

EarthKind® Shampoo Bars have a pH between 5 and 6, which compliments the hair’s natural pH and natural beauty.”
